Mia McCord Joins Texas Chemistry Council as Vice President of Government Affairs

Austin, TX - The Texas Chemistry Council (TCC) announced today that Mia Garza McCord has been named Vice President of Government Affairs. As Vice President of Government Affairs, McCord will lead TCC’s legislative efforts at the Texas State Capitol. McCord joins TCC from Hourglass Strategies, where she was founder and president and represented corporate and non-profit clients, including TCC.

Her experience and dedication to public service will greatly enhance our efforts at the Capitol as we continue to advocate for the Texas chemical industry and the benefits it brings to our state.”

McCord brings to TCC nearly two decades of experience in Texas public policy, political campaigns, government relations, coalition building, and running a non-profit think tank. She has served as Chief of Staff and Legislative Director in both the Texas House and Texas Senate and has managed congressional and state legislative campaigns, fundraising campaigns, and served as the first Hispanic and first woman President of the Texas Conservative Coalition Research Institute. 

McCord is a native of South Texas and is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and Literature.

In addition to her professional roles, McCord strongly believes in giving back to the community. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse of Central Texas, the ZACH Theatre, The Americano Dream, and the Advisory Boards for the LBJ Women’s Campaign School and Hyde Park School’s Board of Directors. She’s a Leadership Network Member of American Enterprise Institute (AEI), a member the Women’s Symphony League of Austin, Immediate Past President of the Hyde Park Parent Teacher Fellowship, Vice President of Fundraising for Capitol Republican Women, and an Aspen Institute Civil Society Fellow. McCord was appointed in 2022 to serve on the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas Community Advisory Board.
